Manchester United are making progress in their efforts to offload Rasmus Hojlund this summer, with AC Milan in pole position for his signature before the deadline. Ruben Amorim has deemed the 22-year-old striker surplus to requirements after completing an aggressive attacking overhaul this summer.
United have splashed over £200million to sign Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who are expected to form Amorim's strongest attacking trio. Hojlund's uninvolvement in the Red Devils' final pre-season match against Fiorentina last weekend strongly indicated that he does not fit into plans for the upcoming campaign.
The United No. 9 initially came out fighting by making an effort to speak to reporters in a mixed zone during the club's tour of the United States.
Hojlund ironically scored twice in a 4-1 win against Bournemouth in Chicago on the same day that Sesko emerged as Amorim's top target.
After the friendly, he said: "The most important [thing] for me is to keep working hard and stay focused, and then we will see what happens.
"My plan is very clear, and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot. Competition is fine with me; it sharpens me. I'm more than ready."

However, two weeks have passed, during which he played just 18 minutes against Everton and watched the Fiorentina clash from the bench.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan directly contacted Hojlund's representatives after receiving encouragement over a deal.
And the Denmark international's father, Anders, is said to have made it clear to the Serie A giants that he is interested in joining before the deadline.
It's claimed that Hojlund's father expressed the respect the striker has for Milan's history and how strong their interest has been this summer.

The report adds that he will now hold discussions with Rossoneri figures over the project and his potential role in Max Allegri's plans.
Allegi is expected to be involved in those talks so that he can explain his tactical vision for Hojlund.
Milan sporting director Igli Tare is thought to be pulling out all of the stops to ensure Hojlund lands at the San Siro in the coming weeks.
Reports state the current deal on the table is a season-long loan with a £4m fee, plus a £39m option to buy next summer.
