Meghan Markle may have only been a working member of the Royal Family for less than two years, but she no doubt played a significant role in the Firm. During her time as a working royal, which ended in early 2020, when she stepped back from royal life alongside husband Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex seemed committed to her royal role, carrying out a number of engagements and taking on several patronages.

Since the couple moved to America five years ago, a number of revelations and allegations have come out about their time in the Firm, including claims Meghan had snubbed the help of one senior royal. Meghan was reportedly offered help getting used to her royal role by Duchess Sophie, Prince Edward's wife.

Having been married into the family for over two decades and grown to become a key member of the Firm, Sophie, the former Countess of Wessex and now Duchess of Edinburgh, has often been seen as the monarchy's "secret weapon", with the late Queen reportedly believing she could be a perfect mentor for Meghan.

However, it seems Meghan was not keen on being mentored, with royal expert Gyles Brandreth alleging there was a surprising reason behind this.

According to Brandreth, the duchess felt she didn't need any help as she had Harry.

Hetold the Daily Mail show Palace Confidential in 2022: "The Queen wanted Meghan to make a success of the marriage and of her new role, and indeed did everything that she could to encourage that.

"I think she suggested to her that Sophie Wessex, who certainly was a favourite with her, and had been through it because she had married into the Royal Family, and married Prince Edward, might help her, be a sort of mentor.

"She (Meghan) felt she had Harry, she didn't need to be offered a mentor."

Meghan has been critical of her time in the UK as a working royal. The duchess is now happily settled in Montecito, California, with Harry and their two children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
