The 1% Club contestants were left baffled after attempting to solve a tricky letters question on the ITV programme. The quiz show, hosted by Lee Mack, tests the logic and common sense of 100 individuals who have the chance to walk away with £100,000 if they answer every question correctly. The programme's questions are put to the public and the percentage of who gets it correct determines the difficulty of each round, meaning the questions get harder as they go along.
During a previous episode of the show, the final stages of the competition began to heat up as just 10 contestants had made it to the 15% question. It read: "Which two words, that contain the same five letters as each other but in a different order, mean the same as the two words below? Fairly silent." The remaining players scrambled to find the correct answer as the clock began to tick. Making light of the situation, the host declared: "And the answer isn't Silent Fairly."
As the timer ran out, Lee announced that three players had been eliminated after getting the question wrong. The presenter confirmed the correct answer was "quite quiet", adding: "Fairly equals quite and silent equals quiet."
Turning to the contestants, Lee said: "Somebody who got it right is Jackie Eminsang. You have just answered the 15% question..."
Despite guessing the correct answer, Jackie confessed she was getting "less confident with every question".
Lee didn't hold back as he quipped: "That's weird. But I know what you mean. It gets more tense I guess, doesn't it? Anyone waiting specifically to see how you get on?"
Jackie revealed that she was playing along with her dad, however, he had been eliminated "a long time ago" during the 80% question.Unfortunately for Jackie, her luck ran out as she was eliminated by the 5% question. Five contestants made it through to the 1% question, with each player deciding to gamble their 10k prize money for a chance to win more.
The question was: "What new word links the capitalised words below? My SON TED ate raw FOOD and got SICK, then went to BED with me by his SIDE."
The answer was "sea" as it can be placed in front of each capitalised word to make a different one. Sadly, all five men were defeated by the tricky question and walked away with nothing.
