The beautiful European coastal city with £23 flights and no crowds

Mass tourism has impacted a number of European hotspots, resulting in an influx of tourist taxes and overcrowded holiday spots. It is one of the many reasons why travellers are now looking for quieter and lesser-visited towns and cities in which to enjoy the ultimate getaway in their favourite countries.

Spain, which is a popular destination for UK holidaymakers, has also been swept up by the crowds of tourists but instead of avoiding the country completely, Brits can just choose to visit this Spanish gem along the Costa Blanca, which offers the perfect blend of Spanish tradition and natural beauty.

Denia is a seaside city in eastern Spain, and unlike other seaside resorts, Denia is not overrun with tourists and even better Brits can fly to Alicante, its nearest airport for as little as £21.

Skyscanner currently shows flights from London Gatwick on August 19, costing £21 one way. A flight from Manchester on the same day costs £24, while Leeds and Newcastle are also relatively cheap at just £25.

The stunning city has so much to offer, dotted a long its 20-kilometre coastline are fine sand beaches in the northern part, while the south is home to steep and rocky sections.

Les Deveses beach is the city's widest and most sandy, it is also the furthest away from the urban area, perfect for those who enjoy the peace ad quiet. It is one of the most popular beaches with a 4.1 rating on TripAdvisor.

"This beach is the most beautiful, the soft white sand reminds you of a carribean island it is so white and soft. It is a fantastic place to 'walk the beach' and at the end of the walk you can have a coffee/lunch or just a beer in Los Banos and the view is amazing," one visitor wrote on the travel site.

Another wrote: "[A] very long beach, [that is] free, with white sand and clean water. Fortunately no algae unlike others. For me the best near Denia."

The city also has fascinating landmarks, including the 18-century Church of Asuncion, and the City Hall, which boasts two memorial tablets from the ancient temple of Roman goddness Diana.

Denia's historical centre and Old Town, reflects the city's remarkable ancienty history and is also home to a charming high street made up of clothing stores, cafes, and small sweet shops.
