Easter can be a useful time to combine annual leave with an already long bank holiday weekend to carve out a seasonal getaway. And now the cheapest Easter city break has been calculated for 2025 - and it's a spot where you can get a beer for under £2. Investment platform Saxo has crunched the numbers to determine the best value for money trips over the break, with some major European hotspots featured.
Dan Squires, a Saxo employee, said: "The Pound has strengthened about 6% against the Euro over the last two years - meaning UK holidaymakers are in a good position to get more for their hard-earned money. However, what the research shows is that some choices offer much better value than others. This is very similar to investing, where understanding valuations is just as important as spotting what's fashionable."
The new figures revealed that Prague makes for the cheapest getaway overall this Easter, when the costs of the cheapest flight, beer, coffee, a meal for two and hotel for three nights are combined. In the Czech capital, a beer costs just £1.99, while a meal for two comes in at £35.50. All in all, the total cost of a trip to Prague is calculated at £328.64, the cheapest city break of all those analysed.
In comparison, the next cheapest getaway, to Vienna, is almost £100 more expensive, driven by costlier prices on all fronts. A beer in the Austrian capital will set tourists back £3.71, while a meal for two is £57.74, though the cheapest flight is less expensive than to Prague, coming in at £129 as opposed to £132.
Making up the top five were Berlin, Dublin and Porto, at total costs ranging from £461 to £492.19. Ireland's capital city boasted the cheapest flights of any city in the top ten, at just £79, while Porto has the cheapest meal for two of any city in the top ten barring Prague, at £41.24.
Following these spots were Rome and Paris in sixth and seventh place respectively, with the Italian capital being the spot for the cheapest coffee on this list, at just £1.27.
A three-day stay in either of these locations can be had for less than £550.
Finishing off the top ten were Barcelona, Lisbon and Amsterdam, the latter being the looking to get away for Easter.
Despite its popularity among British tourists, the Dutch city was the most expensive city in Saxo's top ten list, with the total cost of a three-day trip estimated at £617.46, almost £300 more than a similar excursion to Prague.
That compares to total prices of £539.21 for Barcelona and £593.22 for a trip to Lisbon.
