The delightful path leads up through woods alongside the River Swale then on through Hudswell Woods, a semi-natural woodland with towering beech trees, oak and ash.

A steep flight of steps leads up through these woods to the quiet village of Hudswell.

Here you can stop for a well earned pint at the George and Dragon and with up to eight cask ales available and its own beer too, brewed in the barn next door, you will have a tricky choice on what to drink.

Boasting its own community shop, library, allotments, and beehives, as well as its large terraced beer garden, it is just too tempting not to visit it.

Serving customers for over two centuries, this is a five-time CAMRA award-winning pub offering a selection of drinks and classic pub food.

As the first community pub in Yorkshire, the George and Dragon has reportedly seen a few well-known faces, including former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, among its customers.

Even King Charles, then the Prince of Wales, visited this pub in 2015. Here, he met with local musicians and some pub regulars, before venturing outside to greet the residents of Hudswell.

With a full tummy, the return leg of this walk follows the top of a wooded escarpment for most of the way, walking across a series of narrow field strips and countless stiles before dropping back into Richmond.
