Robin Hood is airing on MGM+ and the epic adventure series follows Robert of Locksley (played by Jack Patten), the son of a forester whose family is stripped of their ancestral home under the crushing rule of the Normans.
After his father is executed by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Sean Bean), Rob gathers a band of outlaws to wage war against corruption and injustice.
The 10-episode series was created by John Glenn and he said the huge scope and scale is reflected in the multiple filming locations.
He shared: "It is very grounded in historical accuracy. We did a ton of research in that way and it's an origin story.
"This is the story of a boy becoming a man, and then that man becoming an outlaw, and that outlaw a legend. It's more Peaky Blinders in tone than any other Robin Hood I've seen."
Production actually took place in Serbia at PFI Studios.
A set was created in Simanovci, a village not far from the capital of Belgrade.
Serbia's Gornji Milanovac and its surrounding regions, including the scenic village of Varnice, were also used as main filming locations.
Varnice was transformed into Sherwood Forest and hosted over 200 cast and crew.
Jonathan English, who also directs the series, was quoted by Film in Serbia as saying: "Robin Hood is a global brand and a story we've been obsessed with since our youth.
"Bringing it back to life has been a dream come true. Serbia's landscapes offer a unique blend of natural beauty and versatility.
"These locations perfectly capture the rugged charm of medieval England."
Gornji Milanovac's mayor, Dejan Kovaevi, expressed enthusiasm about the project's impact on the local community.
He said: "This production not only promotes our region globally but also leaves a lasting legacy through local investments.
"Hosting Robin Hood is a tremendous opportunity for Gornji Milanovac."
