A bodycam video shared by the Martin County Sheriff's Office shows the moment Ryan Routh was arrested. Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old suspect, was taken into custody following gunfire from Secret Service officers close to Trump's golf course's edge. Recovered at the site was a powerful weapon in the form of an AK-47, complete with a scope and a GoPro camera.
Who Is Ryan Routh?Ryan Wesley Routh is a former construction worker from Greensboro, North Carolina, according to the New York Times. Despite not having a formal military experience, Routh had previously stated that she would have like to take part in combat, especially in Ukraine following Russia's invasion in 2022. In one tweet, Routh stated that he was prepared to "fight and die" in Ukraine on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter. Additionally, he supported the idea that citizens may influence international wars.As per the New York Times, Routh included the statement "Civilians must change this war and prevent future wars" in his profile bio on the messaging app Signal. "Each one of us must do our part daily in the smallest steps help support human rights, freedom and democracy; we each must help the Chinese," his WhatsApp profile states. Routh's actions extended beyond his statements on the internet. He stated that he went to Ukraine in 2023 to recruit Afghan fighters to aid in the war effort in an interview with The New York Times. Routh had already encountered violence. He was taken into custody in Greensboro in 2002 after he locked himself inside a structure while brandishing a fully automatic firearm. The accusations were severe, but it's still uncertain how the case would turn out.
