Chennai: Chennai is gearing up for the much-anticipated Air Show 2024, set to take place at Marina Beach on October 6, 2024. With a large crowd expected to attend the event, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced special traffic and parking arrangements to ensure smooth movement and avoid congestion in the city.
Traffic Modifications for Air Show 2024To manage the high volume of spectators and vehicles, the following traffic modifications will be in place: Kamarajar Salai AccessOnly vehicles with valid passes will be allowed between Gandhi Statue and War Memorial on Kamarajar Salai. Motorists without passes are advised to use Walajah Salai for better parking options, avoiding R.K. Salai. Alternative Routes for Thiruvanmiyur to Parrys TrafficVehicles heading from Thiruvanmiyur to Parrys via Kamarajar Salai will be restricted. They are advised to use Sardar Patel Road → Gandhi Mandapam Road → Anna Salai as an alternative route. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Parrys to Thiruvanmiyur will be diverted via Anna Salai → Teynampet → Gandhi Mandapam. MTC Bus DiversionsMetropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses from Anna Statue will be rerouted through Walajah Road → Triplicane High Road → Ice House Junction → Dr. Natesan Road → R.K. Salai and other areas to reach their destinations. Vehicle Diversions from Greenways PointVehicles from Greenways point will be diverted towards Mandaiveli → RA Puram 2nd Main Road → TTK Salai → R.K. Salai → Anna Salai. Commercial Vehicle RestrictionsFrom 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, commercial vehicles will be restricted on key roads, including Kamarajar Salai, Anna Salai, Santhome High Road, R.K. Salai, Cathedral Road, and Walajah Road. Parking ArrangementsSpecial parking locations have been designated for spectators: 1. Kamarajar Salai- Foreshore road VIP & VVIP car parking

Public Transport EncouragedGiven the expected heavy turnout, the GCTP urges the public to use MTC buses, Metro trains, and MRTS trains for hassle-free travel. MTC will provide special feeder services from metro stations along Anna Salai to nearby locations such as TV Station (Sivanandha Salai), Walajah Road, and R.K. Salai (up to VM Street Junction).Motorists are requested to cooperate with the authorities and follow the prescribed routes for a smooth experience on the day of the event.
