The real-time fact-checking of the Presidential debate on ABC in September became a major point of contention. With Trump being fact-checked four times by the moderators for inaccurate claims, the fact-check policy of CBS ahead of the Vice Presidential debate Tuesday will be looked at. However, the network has confirmed that moderators will not fact-check either JD Vance or Tim Walz, and it will be up to them to fact-check each other. Meanwhile, the network will run a live fact-checking feed on the website of its misinformation unit, CBS News Confirmed, providing real-time fact-checking of the claims made by each candidate. Additionally, fact-checking will be provided on the live blog, social media, and on-air during the post-debate analysis. CBS News said that moderators will facilitate rebuttal time for each candidate during which they will be allowed to correct each other claims. After the September debate, Trump said he regretted not challenging the debate moderators more aggressively. Trump also made claims about the debate’s fairness, suggesting that the moderators were biased against him by fact-checking him four times as compared to Harris, who he alleged was never fact-checked. Additionally, he criticized the format and rules of the debate, arguing that they were designed to disadvantage him.
