The Indian women's cricket team are all set to face arch-rivals Pakistan in a much-awaited clash of the T20 World Cup on Sunday, October 6 in Dubai. Harmanpreet Kaur and her bunch of girls will have to regroup and iron out the imbalances in team combination when they face Pakistan, who began their campaign on a high with a slightly unexpected win against Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka. A 58-run loss to New Zealand on Friday hasn't just dented India's chances of entering the semifinals of the Women's T20 World Cup, but it has pushed them to a tight corner as well. India's run rate stands at a poor -2.9 and it makes big wins compulsory for them in the remaining three games against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia. The Harmanpreet-led team was wretched in all three departments of the game against the Kiwis in its World Cup opener and India now require a reversal within a day.
India's Record Against Pakistan In Women's T20 World CupIndia and Pakistan have played each other seven times at the T20 World Cup and India have won five of those encounters while Pakistan have won two. Their first meeting was in the group stage of the 2009 edition of the tournament, the maiden one. Former spinner Priyanka Roy bagged a five-for to dismiss Sana Mir-led Pakistan for just 75 runs and Anjum Chopra then led the chase to take India to a five-wicket win. In the 2010 edition of the tournament, Roy starred again as Pakistan were restricted to 104/6 and Punam Raut then led the chase as India thrashed their neighbours by nine wickets. In the 2012 edition of the Women's T20 World Cup, former spinner Rasanara Parwin's brilliant spell of 4-0-15-2 restricted Pakistan to 98/9. In the chase, Nida Dar starred for Pakistan as her three-wicket haul didn't let India chase down the target and they finished at 97/8, as Pakistan won by just one run. Pakistan also won the 2016 World Cup encounter between the two teams, by just two runs. But since then, India have mastered their neighbours in all the editions. You may also like
