Mangaluru: The directorate of child protection has directed the Mangaluru City police and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to take appropriate action to prevent children begging in the city. In a communication sent to Mangaluru City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal and MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik, the directorate mentioned a legal notice served by advocate Akhileshwari on behalf of her client Nigel Albuquerque, a civic activist. Albuquerque stated in the notice that child begging has become rampant near PVS junction and Lalbagh in the city. He also brought to notice the forceful child labour in the city. The activist sought immediate action to prevent child begging, forceful child labour, and traffic woes in the city. The directorate directed the city police and MCC to take necessary action and submit a report. TNN
