Stock markets are gearing up for one of their most cherished traditions, Muhurat Trading, on Tuesday, leaving many investors wondering whether the market is open today or closed for Diwali Laxmi Pujan .

Muhurat trading 2025 : Are stock markets closed today?

This year, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on October 21, in observance of the festival but will open exclusively for the Muhurat Trading session, for one hour.

The special one-hour session, which marks the start of Samvat 2082 , is seen as a symbol of prosperity and optimism for investors and businesses alike.

The markets will also remain closed on October 22 for Balipratipada.

Muhurat trading 2025: Timings

Unlike previous years, the Muhurat session will be held from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with trade modifications allowed until 2:55 pm. Investors can trade in equities, futures and options, commodities, currency derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments.

The NSE and BSE have clarified that all trades conducted during the Muhurat Trading session will follow standard settlement rules, meaning buyers and sellers must complete delivery and payment obligations just as they would on a regular trading day.

The block deal session will start from 1:15 PM, lasting till 1:30 PM, according to ET. Pre opening session will be from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM. The closing session will take place from 2:55 PM to 3:05 PM.

Meanwhile, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also hold special Muhurat Trading sessions on October 21, 2025.

The updated schedule for MCX is as follows:
Pre-Open Session from 1:30 pm to 1:44 pm, followed by the Muhurat Trading window from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.
