‘Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh’ brought together Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday in a powerful historical drama packed with emotional courtroom moments. The film, which opened to strong numbers, is now nearing the end of its run in cinemas
Strong start, slow finish
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ started strong at the box office. According to Sacnilk, it collected Rs. 46.1 crore in its first week and managed another Rs. 28.65 crore in its second week. However, things began to slow in week three, which saw just Rs. 8.6 crore added to its total.
As of Day 27 (Wednesday, 14 May 2025), the India net box office total stands at Rs. 88.55 crore. On that day alone, it collected about Rs. 0.50 crore, according to early estimates from Sacnilk. That means the film is inching closer to the Rs. 90 crore mark, but it remains uncertain whether it will reach it before exiting cinemas. On the other hand after 26 days, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ has crossed Rs. 137.20 crore worldwide.
Day 27 occupancy
On its 27th day in theatres, ‘Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh’ had an overall Hindi occupancy of 10.20% on Wednesday, 14 May 2025. The night shows performed the best with 13.08% occupancy, while the morning shows saw a lower turnout at 6.72%. Afternoon and evening shows saw 11.16% and 9.84% occupancy respectively. These numbers reflect how audience interest is fading as the film completes nearly a month in theatres.
A spiritual sequel
Rather than continuing from where the original ‘Kesari’ left off, this sequel takes a different route. ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ focuses on the aftermath of the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, and tells the story of Justice C. Sankaran Nair — a real-life figure who challenged the British Empire in court.
Akshay Kumar plays the lead role with a powerful presence, bringing to life the emotional and legal struggle faced by those fighting for justice. R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday also deliver strong performances, making this film more of a serious period drama than a traditional commercial movie
Akshay Kumar’s next
Fans of Akshay Kumar have something totally different to look forward to now. The actor is all set to return to his comedy roots with ‘Housefull 5’, the latest film in the hit franchise. Joining him in the film are Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Sanjay Dutt. The film is set for release on 5 June 2025.
