Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram set the stage alight with explosive half-centuries, and Nicholas Pooran added a fiery cameo as Lucknow Super Giants posted a daunting 205/7. But it wasn't enough, as Sunrisers Hyderabad , led by Abhishek Sharma ’s whirlwind 59, chased down the target with ease, knocking LSG out of IPL 2025 playoff contention in Match 61 at the Ekana Stadium .

In a must-win encounter for LSG, Marsh (65 off 39) and Markram (61 off 38) were at their brutal best during a 115-run opening stand. The duo tore into the SRH attack, taking full advantage of a flat pitch and some sloppy fielding. Debutant Harsh Dubey nearly removed both openers early, but keeper Ishan Kishan missed crucial chances.

Once Marsh and Markram fell in quick succession, the momentum shifted. Rishabh Pant (7) and Ayush Badoni (3) struggled yet again, and LSG's acceleration slowed. Pooran (45 off 26) tried to revive the innings, but his run-out while attempting to retain strike in the final over was a telling blow. Shardul Thakur and Abdul Samad followed in the same over, though Akash Deep ended with a six to lift LSG beyond 200.

Quiz: Who's that IPL player?

Sunrisers Hyderabad made light work of the target. Despite losing Atharva Taide early to William O’Rourke’s first IPL wicket, Abhishek Sharma blitzed 59 off 20 balls, including four sixes in a row, to shift the pressure back on LSG. Digvesh Rathi dismissed both Abhishek and Ishan Kishan (35), briefly reviving LSG's hopes.

But Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 27) and Kamindu Mendis (32* retired hurt) steered SRH confidently. Klaasen's brisk scoring and a key 53-run stand with Mendis left LSG out of answers. The chase was wrapped up in 18.2 overs, sealing a dominant six-wicket win for SRH.

With the loss, Lucknow Super Giants are officially eliminated from IPL 2025 playoff contention, capping off a disappointing season that promised much but delivered little when it mattered most.
