Indian shot-putter Kiran Baliyan has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency ( NADA ) after testing positive for a banned substance. Baliyan, who won a bronze medal at the Asian Games , tested positive for metandienone , an anabolic steroid.

Baliyan is facing a potential four-year ban if found guilty. She had recently won gold at the 2023 National Inter-State Championships and silver at the 2024 Federation Cup, reported PTI.

In addition to Baliyan, several other Indian athletes across various sports have also been placed under suspension. Hammer thrower Manju Bala, who won a bronze at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, tested positive for multiple substances, including dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and SARMS LGD-4033. Shalini Chaudhary, the Federation Cup silver medallist, tested positive for metandienone, while long-distance runner Chavi Yadav tested positive for drostanolone.

In wrestling, Arju, a bronze medallist at the 2023 U20 World Championships, tested positive for stanozolol. Badminton player Krishna Prasad Garaga, who was part of the gold-winning team in the 2022 Thomas Cup, tested positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG).

Other sports with athletes under provisional suspension include Wushu, Pencak Silat, rowing, and canoeing. Notable names include Bhupendra Singh Byadwal, Ashish Phugat, and Ribason Singh Ningthoujam.

It's worth noting that Olympian Bajrang Punia 's name is not on the latest update, although he had previously faced suspension by NADA.

Punia was initially suspended on April 23 for refusing to provide a urine sample during selection trials. "NADA had suspended Punia for a second time on June 23, after the Anti-Disciplinary Doping panel (ADDP) had revoked his suspension," according to the national body.

The list highlights the ongoing challenge of doping in sports, with athletes across various disciplines testing positive for banned substances.
