Key Highlights
Rob Manfred’s comment on Dodgers ticket pricesIt is well known that getting a Dodgers ticket is no child’s play. And no, we are not talking about the rush, which used to happen earlier, we are pointing towards the extravagant price of Dodgers tickets, which costs approximately $300 per person. Besides, this price also varies depending on the game.
Now, one would imagine that a $300 ticket will give you the best seats in the stadium, somewhere near the field where you can catch a home run ball. Well, that’s not the scenario, as a $300 Dodgers ticket gives you basic, sometimes near the nosebleeds, seats.
When fans started complaining about the rising ticket prices, which are increasing every season, Rob Manfred, the MLB Commissioner gave a statement.
As per Manfred, “One of the leaders in terms of thinking about affordability has been the other Los Angeles team.”
In simple words, Manfred indirectly said that if fans find Dodgers expensive, they should switch to the Los Angeles Angels fandom, where the match tickets are way below $50 and even have various combo offers for groups.
Was it a sensible comment? No. Telling fans to switch their fandoms as they cannot afford their favorite team’s match tickets is a great insult to the fans’ loyalty, and Manfred has triggered that switch by saying this.
Fan reactions on Rob Manfred’s insensitive commentAfter the statement was released, fans started slamming Manfred all over the internet. It seems this is not the first time Manfred has made statements asking fans to switch their loyalty if they cannot afford match tickets.
Previously, he had asked the Oakland A’s fans to become Giants fans when the former team’s lease with Oakland was about to end.
Was it a good comment then? No. Did Manfred learn anything from the backlash? No, he’s still making such comments, for which fans are calling him tone-deaf.
Fans have been quite outspoken about their thoughts regarding Manfred’s comments, and have not shied away from calling him out. One user went on to mimic Manfred,
“Hey folks. Is your favorite team too expensive to support? How about finding another team?" Seriously Manfred?”
With the kind of outrage fans are showcasing, it seems like this controversy won’t die soon. Will Manfred learn something from this or continue to make such insensitive comments? Only the future holds the answer. In the meantime, most Dodgers fans are succumbing to watching their favorite team from the comfort of their living rooms as tickets are too expensive to even think about.

The same guy who said A’s fans should just go watch the Giants. Are you surprised?

Could you be any more tone-deaf? "Just drive 2.5 hours to Anaheim, and watch a team you're not a fan of"
