ChatGPT down: What the company said on the two-hour long outage

OpenAI ’s ChatGPT was down for some users on September 17, 2024. OpenAI acknowledged the issue and classified it as ‘partial outage’ on its official website. According to the company’s status page, the issue started around 3:50pm PT. Marked as “Elevated Errors on Some API Models”, the issue impacted ChatGPT users across the world.

What the company said
“Starting around 3:50pm PT, some API models had elevated error rates. Engineers are actively investigating the issue and working on a mitigation,” the company said on a status page. As per the website, the issue is now resolved. “Engineers have implemented a fix, and API requests have been recovering since 4:30pm PT. The team is monitoring the update,” it added.


Around 5:56pm, the company informed that the incident has been resolved.


Another issue impacted ChatGPT
The artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot faced another issue which affected the Workspace Analytics tab. Marked “Workspace Analytics tab is broken for ChatGPT Enterprise users,” it impacted ChatGPT Enterprise, which was “not returning any data.”

In an update, OpenAI said “A fix has been implemented and data processing is currently underway, and all affected data should be fully available within the next 10 hours.”

“We have restored data for a portion of affected users and are continuing to work diligently to resolve the issue for the remaining users,” the company informed in another update.

ChatGPT users continue to face issues
While the OpenAI status page says that the issue has been resolved, some users reported to face issues with the AI bot. Downdetector - the outage tracking website shows issues with ChatGPT.
