JAMMU: Anshul Garg , CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), underscored the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders in anticipation of a significant influx of pilgrims during the Shardiya Navratra festival, beginning from October 3.

He observed this while chairing a meeting with security agencies and local authorities on Monday to assess critical areas like security and operational preparedness during the festival.

Manoj Sinha, lieutenant governor of Jammu & Kashmir and also the chairman of SMVDSB, earlier visited the holy shrine on Sept 27 to review operational preparedness and security measures in the shrine area. Following his directions, Garg underscored essential security measures, including the replacement of RFID cards with new ones for enhanced security and mandatory RFID registration for all pilgrims.

“To facilitate smooth registration, eight registration counters will be operational for pilgrims arriving by train at Katra,” Garg said.

He also spoke for thorough frisking and verification at all entry points, alongside a detailed census of pony porters to mitigate security risks, and monitoring vulnerable areas and conducting joint patrols. He instructed security agencies to put in place measures for robust crowd management, fire safety, and disaster management.

Officers of security agencies informed the CEO that a multi-tier security grid comprising police and paramilitary forces will be in place to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the festival.
