Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday police were pursuing "some definitive clues" in NCP (Ajit) functionary Baba Siddique 's murder the previous day but refused to confirm Lawrence Bishnoi gang's involvement.

"In the media, many theories are being floated but there is nothing official about it. All I can say is some angles have come to the fore and investigations are on," Fadnavis, also the state's home minister, said when asked whether the Bishnoi gang had carried out the murder.

Fadnavis said two suspects were arrested. "Some clues are coming up but it wouldn't be proper to talk about it here," he said.

Fadnavis slammed Sharad Pawar for politicising the issue after the NCP (Pawar) veteran said the killing was a sign of Maharashtra's "deteriorating law and order".

"Pawar is focused only on securing power. Even after such a serious incident, they can only think about coming to power, but we are thinking about Maharashtra," the home minister said.

The deputy CM described Siddique's death as a personal loss. "It's very sad as I had a close friendship with Baba Siddique. We worked together for many years in the legislature. It's a shock for all of us," he said.
