NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi , on Sunday emphasized the need for greater female participation in politics, asserting that true equality and justice can only be achieved with more women in decision-making roles. Gandhi urged women passionate about driving change to join the ' Shakti Abhiyan ', an initiative aimed at creating an equal political space for women's interests.

"A year ago, we launched the ' Indira Fellowship ' with a mission to amplify women's voices in politics. Today, this initiative has grown into a powerful movement for women's leadership," Gandhi said on X. He reinforced the Congress party's commitment to women's empowerment through the slogan Aadhi Abadi, Poora Haq (Half the population, full rights).

"I urge all women who are passionate about creating real change to join the 'Shakti Abhiyan' and become active participants in women-centric politics. By getting involved, you will contribute to building robust grassroots organisations and driving meaningful change. Join us and register today," Gandhi said.

The 'Shakti Abhiyan', an initiative led by the Indian Youth Congress , aims to ensure women's representation by women across all levels of governance, including local bodies, legislative assemblies, and Parliament. It focuses on elevating women's interests in the political arena and decision-making processes.

The Indira Fellowship, launched in memory of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, seeks to amplify women's voices and foster leadership, driving the much-needed transformation in Indian society. "Together, we can create change, from the villages to the nation as a whole," Gandhi concluded.
