A young mother, Inbar Segev-Vigder , was tragically killed in terrorist attack in Jaffa , south Tel Aviv , on Tuesday evening.
Segev-Vigder died shielding her 9-month-old son, Ari, saving his life in the process. Her selfless actions have left the nation in mourning, as she was one of eight victims killed in the attack, seven others were injured.
The attack took place near a railway station on Jerusalem Street. According to videos circulating online, the two gunmen responsible exited the rail armed with rifles and opened fire on civilians, who were seen lying flat on the ground, trying to protect themselves. Israeli security forces quickly responded, neutralising the attackers.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 7:01 pm local time (9:31 pm IST), and medics provided immediate treatment to those wounded. The attack comes amidst rising tensions in the region.
Sirens sounded across Israel later that evening as Iran launched a missile barrage in retaliation for earlier strikes that killed Hezbollah leaders in Lebanon. Israel has urged its citizens to remain vigilant and seek shelter.
