President Donald Trump spent much of his Friday on the golf course in Florida as the markets struggled for two consecutive days from the aftershocks of Trump's tariffs. When Trump left his Mar-a-Lago resort for a short ride to the Trump International Golf Club, the markets were already falling.
Amid criticisms that Trump was rattled by the market reaction and chose to look away from the Wall Street bloodbath by investing his time in his golf, a White House official told CNN that the president's full attention was on the tariff policy Friday. Trump continued to send updates about conversations he had with foreign leaders.
The official said that Trump has long warned of short-term pain created by his tariff vision and America First agenda and was not rattled at all.
Donald Trump's messages after tariff chaos
In his first comment after announcing the tariffs, Donald Trump said the operation was over and the patient -- America -- is healing and will only grow stronger. "The operation is over! The patient lived, and is healing. The prognosis is that the patient will be far stronger, bigger, better and more resilient than ever before," Trump posted on Truth Social.
On being asked about the market reaction, Trump said to reporters that it was going very well. “The markets are going to boom, the stock is going to boom, the country is going to boom,” he said.
"To the many investors coming into the United States and investing massive amounts of money, my policies will never change. This is a great time to get rich, richer than ever before!!!" Trump said in another social media post.
As China announced counter-tariffs, Trump said China played it wrong and panicked, which they can't afford to do now. Trump said Vietnam is ready to drop tariffs on US products as he claimed that almost all countries are in touch with the US administration to negotiate tariffs.
In a post on Saturday, Trump said his tariffs mark an economic revolution. "Hang toiugh, it won'tbe easy, but the end result will be historic," he said.
