Mangaluru: A scooter rider who was seen violating traffic rules near Bendorewell, Kankanady and Pumpwell areas has been penalised after a video of his actions went viral on social media.
The incident took place on March 23, 2025, between 4:00 PM and 4:10 PM. A member of the public captured a video showing the rider without a helmet and with a plastic cover hiding the rear number plate of the scooter. The rider was reportedly heading towards Thokkottu.
Taking the matter seriously, Mangaluru city traffic police traced the scooter using technical tools, police said.

After verifying the vehicle details, police identified several violations. The rider was penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act for riding without a helmet, concealing the number plate, using a defective number plate, negligent driving, riding without a driving licence, and using a mobile phone while riding.
A total fine of Rs 5,500 has been imposed on the rider.
